Wayne,
Right now in Gaza, children are being starved to death on purpose.
Food isn't running out by accident. Hospitals aren't bombed by mistake.
Innocent people are dying because Netanyahu and his right-wing government decided starvation and suffering are acceptable tools of domination and displacement.
I'm a Catholic. The doctrine and scriptures of my faith taught me early on that harming kids is about the lowest, most cowardly thing a human being can do.
The atrocities committed on October 7th were horrific, full stop. There can never be justification or excuse for such brutality. Without question, I condemn Hamas for their crimes on October 7th; for continuing to hold the estimated 50 remaining Israeli hostages they seized on that day; and for their widely reported practice of using their own people as human shields.
But how does deliberately starving a toddler deliver justice for any of that?
How does bombing exhausted doctors desperately trying to stitch up screaming kids fix anything?
These children are somebody's sons and daughters, reduced to skeletons because Netanyahu and his extremist government think they can starve an entire population into submission— borrowing tactics straight from history's darkest chapters.
Doctors are performing surgeries without anesthesia, mothers are holding limp babies too weak to cry, and families are digging through rubble with their bare hands, knowing even if they find loved ones alive, there might be no medical help available.
And I’m troubled to learn about the disclosures from LTC (Ret.) Tony Aguilar, a decorated Green Beret who made disturbing allegations involving the set-up of aid distribution sites run by American contractors and Israeli forces.
According to multiple media reports and interviews such as PBS, the BBC, and MSNBC, the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” is using concrete barriers, razor wire, and fencing to herd desperate, starving, unarmed civilians through narrow corridors to access food distribution points.
The videos, which you can see for yourself in the links above, show people scrambling in a Hunger Games-style stampede to access food that should be freely and equally distributed.
This and other alarming allegations require an immediate investigation and oversight from Congress. If validated, there must be consequences for all responsible.
The people starving in Gaza right now need not only food but complex, comprehensive medical intervention to save their lives. Dropping a bag of rice in their hands is not going to do it.
Here’s the bottom line: this starvation campaign could end today.
In 1982, when Israeli forces laid siege to Beirut and innocent civilians faced intentional starvation, Ronald Reagan picked up the phone and made it clear America wouldn't tolerate the deliberate suffering of innocents.
That siege ended immediately.
Our Republican and Democratic elected leaders have precisely the same leverage to end Gaza's nightmare, yet they choose silence.
Every hour they fail to act means another child starved, another preventable death staining our collective conscience.
My faith teaches me that there are times in human history that demand action in the face of injustice.
I am compelled to raise my voices not just in prayer but in protest, to challenge evil openly, especially when the stakes are highest.
Today, when the explicit policy of any government is to systematically starve human beings, and when that same government deploys armed soldiers to kettle and gun down civilians waiting in food lines, we are witnessing evil in its most naked, undeniable form.
While we continue to push our lawmakers to address this man-made crisis, today I’m asking you to join me in making a contribution to World Central Kitchen, which has been providing invaluable – and real – direct humanitarian support to the starving people of Gaza. |
The moral choice facing us right now could not be clearer: we must oppose the continued starvation of Palestinians in Gaza with unwavering conviction, urgent action, and zero tolerance for cowardly silence.
If that's how you feel too, if that's the moral clarity you've been searching for in politics, then join us.
Stand alongside our campaign, and together we'll demand accountability and build a movement that refuses to compromise when innocent lives are at stake.
