National security is the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation, and ensuring the safety of our citizens, communities, and way of life is of the utmost importance. In Michigan’s 1st District, we understand the value of strong, secure borders, the necessity of a robust defense infrastructure, and the critical need to address emerging threats, both abroad and here at home.

As someone with a deep respect for military service and the sacrifices made by those who defend our country, I am committed to ensuring that our national security policies are rooted in strength, preparedness, and collaboration. We must work to protect our citizens, secure our borders, support our military and veterans, and ensure that our nation remains a global leader in peace and stability.

Here’s my plan to enhance national security for Michigan’s 1st District and our country:

• Supporting Our Military and Veterans: Michigan’s 1st District is home to a proud community of veterans who have served our country with distinction. I will work to ensure that veterans have the resources and care they deserve, including access to quality healthcare, job training programs, and the recognition they’ve earned. As a nation, we must do more to honor our veterans by improving VA services and mental health care, and providing career opportunities for those who have served.

• Ensuring Border Security: Securing our borders is critical to protecting our nation from threats, both foreign and domestic. I will support smart border security measures that focus on technology and intelligence to prevent illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling, while still ensuring that we uphold human rights and provide pathways for legal immigration. Our borders must be secure without undermining our values.

• Fostering Strong Alliances: In an increasingly globalized world, our national security depends on maintaining strong relationships with our allies. I will advocate for policies that strengthen our alliances with NATO, Canada, and other democratic nations. We must lead by example, supporting free and fair trade, promoting human rights, and fostering cooperation in global security matters.

• Modernizing Defense Technology: To maintain a competitive edge in national defense, we must invest in emerging technologies that can protect our nation and support our military. This includes supporting cybersecurity initiatives, space defense capabilities, and modernizing our armed forces to meet new threats like cyberattacks, terrorism, and evolving geopolitical conflicts.

• Combating Domestic Terrorism and Extremism: In addition to international threats, we must also address the growing concerns of domestic terrorism and violent extremism. I will work to implement effective counterterrorism policies that protect civil liberties while also providing law enforcement agencies with the tools they need to identify and combat threats before they materialize.

• Energy Independence and National Security: A secure nation is not reliant on foreign energy sources. I will work to support policies that increase energy independence by investing in clean, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, while also ensuring that we have the infrastructure to secure and reliable energy sources that can power our economy and defense capabilities.

• Protecting Michigan’s Critical Infrastructure: Michigan’s 1st District is home to vital resources and industries, from agriculture to manufacturing. Ensuring the security of our infrastructure, including waterways, energy grids, and manufacturing plants, is critical to maintaining national security. I will work to ensure that Michigan’s critical infrastructure is protected from cyberattacks and physical threats, ensuring that the backbone of our economy and national security is safe and secure.

• Ensuring Resilience in the Face of Global Threats: We live in a rapidly changing world, and national security is no longer solely about military power—it’s about being prepared for a wide range of threats, from climate change to pandemics and economic instability. I will support policies that ensure the resilience of our communities in the face of these global challenges, including strengthening our public health infrastructure and improving our disaster preparedness capabilities.
