Labor Day | Thank a Union

Today is Labor Day, a day to remember the sacrifices of our parents and grandparents who stood up to the factory bosses and fought for workers’ rights.
Like a lot of folks in Michigan, I grew up in a proud union household. My grandfather, Louis Modzeleski, was a union steward. My dad was in the BC&T workers union and my mom was UAW.
It was a time when a union salary meant a stable, even prosperous life. When families could afford a house, a car, and vacations – and still have money to save.
I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to move up in the world, and leave the place a little better off for our kids.
We used to call that the American dream.
But the American dream is under attack, and it’s been slipping out of reach for decades.
Working people aren’t moving forward – in many ways they’re falling behind.
Healthcare costs are bleeding families dry.
The dream of home ownership is practically dead. Even finding a decent place to rent is increasingly out of reach.
Groceries bills are bankrupting people.
The list goes on and on.
My opponent in this race doesn’t have any of these problems. He has a comfortable retirement, a full government salary, and Cadillac-tier congressional healthcare that makes sure he’ll never have to struggle the way you do.The truth is, Republicans like Jack Bergman don’t give a damn about you.
MAGA has been slashing Medicaid and Medicare, dismantling unions, and gutting programs that keep working families afloat.
While MAGA keeps coming after your wages, your social security, and your healthcare, I’m taking the fight I inherited from my parents to fight for you in Washington.
Jack Bergman doesn’t care about working people and he doesn’t understand their struggles. I do, because I’ve lived them.
Working Michiganders deserve a Representative who works for them.
It’s frankly disgusting, and a complete betrayal of everything our founders envisioned, the way Republicans have ruthlessly dismantled the American Dream.
But what else can we expect when the overwhelming majority of people elected to Congress are wealthy and well-connected?
We need a working class Congress to change course to ensure that future generations can experience the promise of prosperity our parents fought for.
That’s my pledge to you this Labor Day. That’s the future we’re fighting for.
Let’s get to work.
